LAWEBFEST announced that Director Young Man Kang has been newly elected as the festival director of the LAWEBFEST. Tammy Ajakwe was appointed as honorary president. This year's LAWEBFEST will be held in Los Angeles, California USA in early November.

LAWEBFEST said, "In 2005, when the first video was uploaded to YouTube, the world of web video content began. Five years later, the first online web series international festival, LAWEBFEST, was established in Hollywood/Los Angeles in 2009 by Michael Ajakwe. The following year, in the French port city of Marseille, the Marseille Webfest was born, followed by the Melbourne Webfest in Melbourne, Australia, the Rome Webfest in Italy, and the DC Webfest in Washington DC in the United States.

In 2015, the first Seoul Webfest (initially called KWebfest) held in South Korea was established by director Young Man Kang, who was active in Hollywood. Michael Ajakwe gave him a lot of encouragement and support. Since then, webfests have spread all over the world. Currently, there are more than 50 webfests forming a worldwide network. With the rapid growth of YouTube, OTT platforms, and social media, many new webfests also quickly emerged.”

Director Kang said, “The godfather of the webfest community, LAWEBFEST, continued to grow since its founding. However, on May 18, 2018 the LAWEBFEST paused due to the death of its founder, Michael Ajakwe who had battled cancer for two years. Michael Ajakwe visited Seoul Webfest twice in a row in 2015 and 2016 and actively supported the event throughout the years.”

LAWEBFEST Committee festival director Young Man Kang said, “I am delighted to take on the role of LAWEBFEST festival director, which is the epitome of the webfest, and at the same time, my shoulders are heavy.”
